LEGAL AUTHORISATION FOR THE INTRODUCTION OF HUNTING WEAPONS AND AMMUNITION

INTRODUCTION:

The act of bringing in firearms from abroad as accompanied or checked baggage. Introductions may be definitive or temporary. Definitive introductions may be carried out by Argentines or resident foreigners who are legitimate users of firearms, within the corresponding category, and by foreigners who come to reside in the Argentine Republic. Temporary introductions may be carried out by foreigners who must remove the material from the country within the established time limits, or inform the National Arms Registry (RENAR) about the destination of the material in order to arbitrate the corresponding registry measures.

TEMPORARY IMPORTATION:

1. Persons wishing to enter the country with one or more firearms and their ammunition in order to carry out hunting activities, sport shooting or for any other legitimate reason, must present themselves before the Argentine Consulate of the country of their domicile, with the requirements mentioned in point 3, requesting the ‘authorization of introduction and temporary possession’ of the material with which they wish to enter the country for the term of their stay in Argentine territory.

2. If the tourist arrives in the country without the ‘introduction and temporary possession’ authorization issued by the Argentine Consulate of his domicile, the intervening local authority may grant such authorization for the term of the stay, ad referendum of the National Arms Registry (RENAR).

The authorization of ‘introduction and temporary possession’, issued by the local authority, will enable the visitor of temporary residence in the country to possess, transport and use the material in the authorized activity and for the authorized term.

3. Upon leaving the country, the individual shall report to the competent authority, which shall verify the departure of the weapons and ammunition not used and shall retain the authorisation granted. If any of the weapons brought in is missing, the interested party must present the documentation justifying this circumstance.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. It is necessary to request an appointment by e-mail or telephone.

2. Present a valid passport (DNI if Argentinean and/or foreigner with residence in the country).

3. Original of the applicant's permit to possess weapons, issued by the corresponding local authority (Austrian, Slovenian or Slovak).

4. Authorisation to possess the weapon to be brought to Argentina, in the applicant's name, issued by the relevant authority (Austrian, Slovenian or Slovak).

5. Air tickets (round-trip).

6. Indicate the place of stay in the Republic of Argentina.

7. Two (2) current photographs, taken from the front, with the head completely uncovered (no hat and no glasses), in colour, with a uniform white and plain background, matte or semi-matte, 4x4 size.

8. Make the payment of the consular fee (the Consulate does not receive payments; these must be made at the bank or by bank transfer.

PROCEDURE:

2. The Consul will check the documents and send you an email to set an appointment date.

3. This Consulate will issue a certificate on which the applicant must place the fingerprint of his/her right thumb and sign. After the consular certification, the certificate is handed over and the original documentation is returned.

PROCESSING IN ABSENTIA:

When the person is unable to go to the Consulate, he/she may complete, sign and place his/her fingerprint before a notary. This notarial document will be valid in Argentina as long as it is duly translated and apostilled. The form can be requested from our Headquarters by e-mail.
