What can a Consul do for you?
- Allow you to use the postal address of the Consular post office for the receipt of private correspondence.
- Provide you with advice on legal, medical, notarial, etc. assistance.
- Assist injured persons.
- Issuing passports
- Informing relatives or persons close to them about accidents or deaths, catastrophes and providing them with advice.
- To take an interest in detained or imprisoned nationals and, under certain circumstances, to transmit messages to relatives.
- To ensure the defence in court of Argentine citizens.
- Requesting the whereabouts of persons from local authorities.
- To issue travel permits to minors with the legal consent of the holders of parental authority.
- Attend to the interests of nationals in matters of inheritance by cause of death.
- Try to communicate with family members or relatives to inform them of their situation and needs.
- To look after the interests of Argentine minors or incapacitated persons, particularly with regard to the institution of guardianship or curatorship.
- To authorise all acts that may be carried out by Notary Publics, especially legalisations.
- Carry out nationality options for minors residing abroad.
What cannot a Consul do for you?
- Be a party to legal proceedings or obtain exemption from imprisonment.
- Provide legal advice or initiate legal proceedings on your behalf.
- Provide you with treatment different from that provided to nationals of the country in hospitals or prisons.
- Carry out tasks that correspond to travel agencies, airlines, banks, etc.
- Provide you with tickets or means to return to the Republic or continue your journey to another point, except in very special circumstances of repatriation.
- Provide you with money or take care of the payment of your bills (hotel, legal, medical or other bills).
- To arrange accommodation, residence, work or work permit for you and to act as your guarantor or surety.
